Dedicated to mentorship.
At NISEA, we believe in the transformative power of STEMM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine) to unlock doors of opportunity, particularly for those who have historically been underrepresented and underserved. Our mission is simple yet profound: to provide mentorship, resources, and research opportunities that inspire young minds and cultivate the innovators, problem-solvers, and leaders of tomorrow.
The Challenge
For far too long, systemic barriers have limited access to quality STEM education for historically underrepresented youth. These barriers—ranging from underfunded schools to a lack of mentorship—have perpetuated educational and career disparities. Even more pressing, right now, across the country, we’re seeing cuts to education, to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion programs, and federal funding that once supported them.
Our Commitment
We are committed to equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary for successful careers in STEMM fields. We believe in the power of mentorship to guide students on their educational journey and inspire them to make a positive impact in their communities.

We are not going back. Join us in moving equity and STEMM innovations forward.

Science
Marginalized students, face systemic barriers to science education that significantly limit their opportunities. For example, predominantly non-white school districts receive $23 billion less in funding than their white counterparts, directly impacting the availability of advanced courses such as AP science or math.

Technology
Underserved children face significant barriers to technology access; for example, only 66% of Black households and 61% of Hispanic households have high-speed internet, compared to 79% of white households. Expanding opportunities equips them for innovation and future careers.

Engineering
Only 14% of engineers in the U.S. are Black or Latinx, despite these groups making up over a third of the population. Expanding access to opportunities in the technology sector fosters both diversity and innovation.

Math
Despite showing aptitude, Black, Latino, and low-income students are often excluded from advanced math courses. For example, research highlights systemic barriers that prevent these students from accessing high-level math, even when qualified, limiting their future academic and career prospects. With nearly 80% of future jobs requiring STEMM skills, addressing these disparities is crucial for personal and societal advancement.

Medicine
Underrepresented groups make up only about 13% of U.S. medical school graduates, despite representing a larger share of the population, perpetuating a lack of diversity in healthcare and exacerbating health disparities. Expanding opportunities for these children is essential to fostering an inclusive workforce and addressing critical healthcare inequities.

Community Recognition
The National Initiative for STEMM Empowerment & Access (NISEA) was created to recognize the value of underserved students, their vibrant communities, rich culture, and full history. NISEA is committed to acknowledging and celebrating these contributions. Our program is designed to instill a sense of pride and recognition of the immense potential within these communities. By empowering students to excel in STEMM disciplines, we aim to create a ripple effect that transforms underserved communities and paves the way for a brighter future.
